The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in the spirit. Psalm 34:16.
In our minds, we remember a woman with the ear to always listen, show care and always with a helping hand. There’s an ache within our heart that will never go away. Our mother lived a life that benefited all who were fortunate enough benefited all who were fortunate enough to come into contact with her. We all remember our first day preparing to go to the senior for all of us no matter where our school was, she would travel with us, every month to keep us in check that is the mother we knew, always there and never hesitated when she was called.
Everywhere she went and everything she touched. She left better than she found them. She added and never subtracted. She made and never destroyed Her light consistently shone and darkness could never comprehend not extinguish it. God gave women tremendous creative force and that force lived in our mother until her last day.
Auntie Aggie (as she was fondly called) you were the truest, dearest and more than a mother to as. And was always there for all of us and many others always ma, mommy, mom she took this role seriously and never waved. No matter what Hemmingway said “life breaks everyone but some people healed stronger in the breaks”
Our moon was one of those despite great obstacles she bounced back repeatedly protecting 13 ladies and her children from a war zone (Liberia) losing one of her brothers during the war, losing one of her sons (Kofi) managing her illness, among other life challenges.
You never quit, you truly practiced what you preached “to never give up” as you told us so often. We had the unique privilege and honour to be her kids. As a mother is where she truly shined throughout her life, she took in people who needed help when she had little. We had several people live with us for months, years at a time. People like being in our home because our mother welcomed everyone without judgement (Not to mention the fact that she always had lots of great food.)
She did not just provide food, she nourished. She did not manage the house, she contributed to a loving home. She did not just contributed to a loving home. She did not just instruct us in what to do. She took the time to teach us and to let everyone around her experience the love and discipline she acquired from her parents (our grandparents) and life experience. Whenever times got tough, she had the time to listen and that alone solved chunk of the problem.
And we who had the privilege of being close to her and being moulded by her principles will never cease to Miss her laughter and cheerfulness.
Your our Mother is gone, for her soul has been taken to a better place. However the spirit by which she lived continues to live in the hearts of the people she touches.
We shall miss you Maa. We may not have always been the best and perfect Kids but you were always the best and perfect mother.
God could certainly not have given us a better gift than such a wonderful soul as a mother.
Rest in peace Maa
